Collins have relaunched the iconic I-SPY series of children’s books and I was keen to see if my boys would be interested in them. I used to love these as a child but as have times have moved on, would they?
Big and little man were both excited by the Creepy Crawlies pocket book. With an array of common garden insects, it is great to use it on a bug hunt in the back garden or a park. Little man headed straight for our bee house where it turns out we have some resident snails rather than bees. We were also able to tick off ants, slugs, woodlice, worms and spiders just from a quick look under the plant pots. With sections on “at the pond” and “flies that are not flies” we still have some spotting and learning to do over the summer holiday.
Each thing you spot has a number assigned to it. Once you have totaled 1000 points you can apply for a special certificate and badge.
With tablets top of my boys agenda on a long car journey, I wasn’t sure how the “On a road trip” i-spy book would fair. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. They were keen to spot the road signs and were then asking where they could see a Ferarri. As luck would have it we ended up driving past a showroom.
It was lovely to have the boys excited about spotting things out of the car window rather than having their heads down watching their tablets. I would highly recommend getting one of these if you are doing any kind of UK travel this summer.
I have been really impressed with these books. The boys have enjoyed them and they are a great idea with the summer holiday around the corner. You can purchase these and the other titles in the series from Amazon.
I am also pleased to be able to offer one of my lucky readers the chance to win these two books. Just complete the Gleam entry below. Good Luck!
