At the end of the Easter holidays, I took the boys to Swinley Forest in Bracknell for the morning. It then hit me that whilst I had mentioned it on my blog before I hadn’t really gone into much detail about what is actually there and why it is so good. Based on the outskirts of Bracknell in Berkshire it is often referred to as The Look Out. This is because The Look Out Discovery Centre is based there. This is a lovely science based centre that really focuses on pre school and infant children. You can read my review here.
Swinley Forest is also home to Go Ape where they have both adult and junior courses. This is where we had big man’s 9th Birthday. They also have a Segway adventure that I quite fancy trying myself.
You can hire bikes here too or like many bring your own.
Parking is just £2 for 4 hours. There are a number of walks around the forest. For big man’s Roman project we visited Caesars camp. Let’s just say that a lot of imagination is required and for a 9 year old this is probably one of the worst things to do in Swinley Forest!
The Lookout Discovery Centre has a cafe attached to it which anyone can use. There is also a side cafe serving hot drinks and in the summer ice creams. The playground is enclosed and has parts for all ages.
Behind the playground is a den building area which is fantastic. My boys can spend ages here building their dens.
It is a fantastic day out for the small cost of parking and well worth remembering if you live close by for may half term.
