As a change to the usual soft play on a rainy day, I decided to take my youngest to The Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell. In term time they run a number of themed toddler days that have extra crafty activities to take part in. We, however, just decided to go on a standard day. It costs £6.25 for an adult and under 4. If you have an over 4 there is a voucher on vouchercloud to get one child in free with a paying adult.
There are 4 main areas for the children to play and learn in. The ones that the children are most interested in, is the water play area and construction area.
The water play consists of a massive play table where you can alter the water flow and floats boats. Aprons are provided to keep your little one as dry as possible.
The construction area has a play frame, complete with roof that can be tiled. There are loads of foam bricks for building and diggers to move the bricks. There was a school party in this zone at the same time as us and it was lovely to see all the children working together.
One of my favourite zones was the light and dark room. You could make a shadow, play with prisms, and create illusions.
The last area is a hands on science part. Little man wasn’t interested in the theory behind anything but was happy to play with the exhibits.
In school holidays and weekends, they run extra talks and activities.
There is a small cafe on site which was reasonably priced. You can go outside and eat a picnic and there is a fantastic playground if the weather is nice.
The discovery centre is quite small and doesn’t really take more than a couple of hours to do everything. However, as a change from soft play in term time it was a great option for us. If you have a younger sibling as well there is is a small soft play area they can explore.
