The last leg of our Costa Rican adventure took us to stay at The Preserve At Los Altos in Manuel Antonio. To be honest it was a bit of a surprise. We hadn’t booked to stay here. We were meant to be staying at Costa Verde Hotel.
The night before our transfer we received a call from the tour operators saying there had been a mix up. To cut a long story short we had been booked into the adult only section and there were no other rooms available. We got an upgrade to Los Altos.
It was a lovely hotel and family friendly too. The food in the restaurant was amazing. (I was addicted to the chipotole burgers.) Breakfast was included and the chefs made the boys smile with their pancake art. Middle man loved his sloth one!
The apartment was huge. The elevator opened into our apartment. The best thing about having an apartment meant that we could just have a bite to eat at lunch. There was a small supermarket a few minutes walk away.
The pool was beautiful with a fantastic view. I even sat in the Jacuzzi and watched monkeys play in the trees. There was also a sloth hanging around.
I had initially been disappointed about the location of the hotel. We had picked Costa Verde as it was a 10 min walk to the beach and had lots of monkeys. The thing is a 10 minute walk to the beach on a steep hill in the heat with pavements that disappear is less than ideal. If you are located at any of the hotels on the cliff side then a bus is the best option. They are regular and very cheap. In hindsight, we would have still used the bus and it made no difference to us at all.
Los Altos does have a private beach, but we were advised it was rocky and not great for the children so we decided against this, and took the bus into Manuel Antonio instead.
Los Altos is a lovely hotel, spacious and family friendly. If you are looking for somewhere to relax, with friendly staff then it is a great place to stay.
